Jasmine "Cocoa Flo" Swanagan is a intelligent, unapologetic, and enlightened poetic voice hailing from the small city of Owensboro, KY. Currently residing in Cincinnati, OH, Cocoa Flo attended the University of Cincinnati where she received a Masters in Health Informatics. Her small town roots mingled with her experience as a corporate professional lend themselves to make up her unique and incredible style. Her ability to be both down to Earth and exacting is displayed whenever she touches a mic. Lyrically, she is a roaring lioness when she serves due notice to racism, body shaming, and colorism.
Cocoa Flo has won or placed in many poetry slams since she began performing in 2016. Four time 1st place winner of Dayton Poetry Slam (Dayton, OH) 2016-2018, 2nd place Lipstick Wars Poetry Slam (Louisville, KY) 2016 & 2017, 2nd place Art & Soul Poetry Slam (Cincinnati, OH) 2017 & 2018, 1st place Soul Spit Summer-Slam (Louisville, KY) 2017, 1st place Detroit Summer Bank Slam (Detroit, MI) 2017, 1st place Stay Woke Slam (Cincinnati, OH) 2017, 2nd place Half Stack Slam (Detroit, MI) 2018, 1st place University of Dayton Litfest (Dayton, OH) 2018, 1st place Slam Madness (Greenville, SC) 2018.
In addition to winning and placing in numerous competitions, Cocoa Flo was also presented with the Owensboro Black Expo President’s Award for Personal Growth and Accomplishments, Community Involvement and Service to Others in 2017.
Cocoa Flo has headlined and performed at several artist showcase events and at prestigious colleges and universities across the region including Miami University (Oxford), Ohio Dominican University, Wilmington College and Northern Kentucky University and Capital University.
Cocoa Flo is currently promoting her self-titled spoken word CD, “Cocoa Flo”, which is available for purchase on iTunes, Google Music and CD Baby and streaming on Spotify.
Her ultimate goal is to empower audiences to think, act, and heal through her transparency and blatant truths.
